What is Down syndrome

Down syndrome overview: Down syndrome happens when three copies of chromosome 21 rather than two are present instead of the usual two. This means extra genetic material from chromosome 21 interferes with normal development. It’s quite common: About one in every 691 babies born has Down syndrome, regardless of race or socioeconomic status.
