Create Dragonflies or butterflies you decide?

Homemade Valentine Cards are fun to make and give, but for children with special needs, sometimes crafting can be difficult. We created a Valentine giveaway that can be adapted and modified based on your child’s skills. If your child can cut then have them cut the hearts out, if you child cannot cut, no problem; simply find the pre-cut packaged hearts. The smiles on your child’s face are priceless when they get a sense of accomplishment. I made these with my daughter and she was very proud of herself. She was doubly excited that she made something that she could share with others.

Supplies:

Dollar Store pencil pack
Heart shaped stickers
Googly eyes
Pipe cleaners.
Construction paper “heart” cut outs (you get to select the color)*
Heart shaped cookie cutter (used as a stencil)
Glue

*Tip: Check Dollar Store, Michaels or Walmart; sometimes they have them pre-cut and packaged inexpensively.

Trace the heart shaped cookie cutter on construction paper…then, cut-out. This may be a good cutting exercise for your child or you may need to help.

You can use pre-cut construction paper shaped hearts as well, if easier. Starting in the middle of the pipe-cleaner, wrap it around pencil several times. Leave enough pipe-cleaner to create “antennas”. Place the pointed end of the hearts on the pencil and attached with a sticker. Make sure the sticker is large enough to stick to the pencil, as well. This will create the wings to flap or fly. Glue on googly eyes and you’re done. You may choose to add stickers or write a message on the wings.
