Adaptive Clothing and Accessories Make Life Easy
Items That Make a Difference
It ’s back to school time again! It’s that magical time of year filled with the excitement of what the new school year will bring for our children; new teacher, new friends, new subjects and of course, new clothes.
Every parent wants to make sure their children are set up for success, but shopping for our special needs children can be a frustrating and challenging task. Typical clothes can be scratchy, with tightness in all the wrong areas, nagging tags, and exposed elastic bands, causing our children to become irritable with an overwhelming desire to chew at their clothes or even take them all off; they do not offer the conveniences needed for feeding tubes, changings or wheelchair bound children. Then, of course, is the fit right?
The right clothes can make a huge difference in how well your child’s school year will go and adaptive clothing companies understand that. Adaptive clothing can take the stress out of getting dressed by offering stylish and comfortable clothing and accessories to make your life easier.

Runway of Dreams/Tommy Hilfiaer
About: It is every parent’s hope that our children “fit in” at school and can be themselves. When Mindy Scheier’s son came to her wanting to wear jeans like all his friends, she didn’t want his muscular dystrophy to hold him back from that reality. As a fashion designer, she had the capabilities to make her son custom clothing but they wouldn’t be the name brands his friends were wearing. In 2014, she founded Runway of Dreams and began a mission to make adaptive clothing for people with disabilities more mainstream. Last February, hervision became a reality when Tommy Hilfiger launched his first Adaptive Line, with styles similar to his other lines, but with the conveniences we need for our children.

Taylor Hart Designs
About: Finding adaptive clothing is hard enough, but what about adaptive clothing styles that bring out your child’s personality, not their illness. We need the clothes to function but we want the clothes to make our children feel good, too. Designer Taylor Byrom is changing the look of adaptive clothing with her Taylor Hart Designs line. Combining her passion for fashion and compassion for children with disabilities, she wanted to create clothes that weren’t just functional and promoted wellness, but also had that style kids crave with whimsical designs and playful patterns. For children ages 2-6, her clothes offer discreet, hidden welt openings for tubes, snaps instead of Velcro, removable jacket backs and wheelchair friendly styles that are longer in length.
Products: Hart Dress, Tubie Jumper, Pocket Tubie Tee, Peplum Tubie Tee, Wheelie Hart Hoodie, Tubie Zip Sweatshirt, and more.
