Meet Sarah Cook from Cookwire Photography

I am an on-location, natural-light Photographer in the Birmingham area.

Most importantly, I’m attempting to be a child of God though I often am not. I have been married to a patient, kind, understanding, spontaneous man for over 14 years. We have three children ranging in age from twelve to six.

How Cookwire Photography [1] came to be

On December 18, 1998, I graduated with an Associates degree in Graphic Design from the Art Institute of Atlanta. On December 19, 1998, I got married! I did not realize that my interest in photography was unique until March of 2009 when my sister-in-law asked me to come take some pictures of her baby girl, Palin. I said yes and then proceeded to find a camera to borrow! I was very surprised at what I was able to get that day and I know God had to have a hand in it for the photos to come out as well as they did.

Soon after, I did a newborn shoot for my cousin-in-law with another borrowed camera. When my best friend, Amy Maffei, saw those pictures she suggested that I look into establishing my own Photography business. So I prayed and prayed and prayed because I knew it would be a huge investment. To my surprise, my husband purchased me my first DSLR camera for Mother’s Day 2009.

I spent that summer practicing like crazy! When the kids went back to school, I obtained my business licenseĀ and have been busy ever since! One of my favorite things about photography is seeing how children look like their parents. It reminds me that we are created in the image of God and I hope that through all this I can “look” like God. God creates us all with talents and gifts. It’s up to us to use them and to give Him the glory. I have no photography education so I know this has to be from Him.

I have a son with Autism, Hearing Loss, and Epilepsy and I know it can be difficult to get a photo of a child with a disability looking “normal”. My goal is to produce portraits that portray your child looking like themselves – with their natural expressions in a way that is memorable and joyful. My drive to your shoot often includes some time praying that I allow God to use me and to see the beauty in the details.
