How do I prepare for my child’s special needs future?

With the current economy the way it is… I am afraid we will never be able to retire. I am not even sure where  or how to begin to prepare for my child’s special needs future.

Let’s begin the New Year by preparing for the future of our children as well as ourselves. I have had many couples with special needs children ask me “ how can they prepare for the future of their children?” This is a difficult situation given the nature of our economy. Many couples are fearful that they will  never be able to retire let alone take care of their children. What a frightening notion to consider. There are steps that one must take in order to at least ensure the future and our stability. Contact a lawyer to investigate “special needs” trusts and long term annuities for family members. Financial advisors,in particular, can be extremely helpful. You do not need large sums of money to invest in yourself. Getting your children on medicaid/medicare is also very important.  The age to begin is  “as young as you can.” Medicaid waivers are the stepping stones to securing proper establishment in the system. Become an informed consumer and start 2011 in a positive way. Your future depends on it!
