Lauren Potter Stars in a Film About Intimacy and Down Syndrome

“Guest Room,” a Film About Intimacy and Down Syndrome

“Guest Room” starring Lauren Potter from hit T.V. Glee, is an award winning, short film about being romantic while in a relationship. This thirteen-minute long video follows a young, intimate couple with Down syndrome and portrays the everyday obstacles people face when being sexually active, like innocence and sexual desire; protection and self-determination and more importantly, pregnancy. This heart-warming video shows how important it is to be safe when getting involved with a partner, and what to do if you do think you might be pregnant. Not only does it show the hardships the couple’s relationship faces, but it also shows the parents reaction when they find out that both are sexually active. This movie empowers adults caught in between childhood and adulthood and is a great representation of what it’s like being a couple with intellectual disabilities. Often times, this topic of conversation is swept under the rug for differing reasons and it shouldn’t be. Lauren’s character in the movie makes a comment that “she doesn’t need her boyfriend’s parents’ help because she can go to college and she can also make decisions about her future.  This is a very powerful part of the movie because, like every young adult in America, we all have this same way of thinking and Amber, played by “Lauren Potter” is no different.
