Help Motivate Your Kids With A Vision Board

Help Motivate Your Kids With This Powerful Tool

Create a vision board with your kids

A vision board — also called a dream board — is a collection of images which represent your goals and dreams for the future. These collages aren’t just pretty to look at; they also function as visualization tools.

Visualization, or imagining an activity, is a powerful exercise that helps you better see and plan for your goals. By seeing a vision board regularly, you engage in a visualization exercise without even having to think about it. Plus, vision boards aren’t just for grown-ups! Creating vision boards together as a family or with your kids can be a fun, inspiring activity. Not only will this project spark discussion, it’s also a great tool for both setting goals [2] and imagining dreams.

A vision board is a great way to motivate kids and help them pursue their dreams and goals. By seeing their goals visually in front of them, it becomes a daily visual reminder. Making a vision board with your kids is super easy and here are the supplies you will need:

Supplies

  1. Construction paper or a magnet board.
  2. Images from the Internet or images from magazines
  3. Scissors
  4. Glue stick or magnets
  5. Markers

Directions

Ask your kids about their dreams. The sky is the limit. Let them DREAM BIG! Have them write down their goals or help them to write those down. Find and cut out images from magazines or print-outs from the Internet that match their goals. Help them cut out a few key words (5) and include them on the board. This will provide inspiration and keep them motivated throughout the year.

Ask the following questions to help them get started

What DO you want to be when you grow up?

What kind of job or work do you want to do? A fireman, a ballerina…

Where would you like to GO or travel to this year? What places would you like to go visit and see? What would you like to possibly do there?

BE healthy and happy. What can you do to be healthy? What can you do to be happy What can you do to make others happy?

What do you LOVE to do? Who do you love? What makes your heart happy? Is it family, friends, pets, etc…?

Suggestions:

1.Google search images. Kailee and I used Google search images and I let her pick out the images that she liked and that resonated with her. Then I printed them out.
P.S. Remind your kids that they can always add to their vision board throughout the year.

TIP 2: Manila file folders work well as a base for the collages because the small size takes up less space. They can also stand on a nightstand like a large greeting card. For a family board, a large poster board works best, if you have the space to display the final product.
