The Long Family provided a video introduction to their family.

Kelly Long’s tribute to her mother:

I attribute my parenting style to my mother. When I was 12 years old, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and my mother never allowed me to use it as a crutch, or an excuse, to not do something. She encouraged me to follow my dreams despite my diabetes.

I find myself parenting my girls the same way. “Can’t” isn’t a part of our vocabulary. We consider our Autism and special needs as strengths, not a weakness. Just as my mother taught me that my diabetes was a great way to stay healthy and not look at it as a weakness.

FUN Facts:

What do you do to find time for you?

When my girls are working on school-work or showering, I make time for myself. Even if just for a few minutes to read a magazine, grab a snack, or listen to some music. “Me Time” IS essential.

What is your favorite CV-19 treat?

Anything chocolate. I’m diabetic so even a small bite of chocolate is a treat.

Do you have a daily make-up essential?

Mascara. It’s all I need on a daily basis.

Do you like Coffee or Tea?

Neither, but I love my caffeine. I get that from diet pop.

Are you a dog or cat person?

I am definitely a cat person. It’s nice to have one member of my household who is independent and doesn’t rely on me all the time. Haha

What is your favorite “wacky word” or phrase from your child?

My favorite “wacky word” would either be “wudasauce” (applesauce) or “ploodle” (poodle). Both of my girls spent most of their childhood in speech therapy and those two words were two of my favorites.
