Master Davey and The Magic Tea House, Legend of the Blue Tigeris a beautifully illustrated and well-written children’s book that combines many valuable lessons with the mystical flavors and senses of tea.
The book begins with the character, Master Davey, a magical tea master, in a teashop with a young boy named Hopper Smith. When Hopper Smith asks Master Davey about a magical Blue Tiger Tea, Master Davey explains to him that it is the most rare and precious tea. He further explains that it will be lost forever unless it can be saved by a very brave boy. This chosen courageous boy is Hopper Smith. Throughout the story, Hopper meets many different characters and goes through many different adventures in his quest to beat the Blue Tiger. At the end of the book, the Blue Tiger turns into an Emperor because of Hopper’s honorable decisions and his bravery. This children’s book magically brings the beauty of tea and legends into a beautiful story. This is an excellent book to instill the principles of believing in yourself, always being brave and kind, having an imagination and that being different can make you a true leader. This book is also unique because one of the coauthors, David De Candia, is the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf tea master.
Carryover Activities: When reading this book to your child, pass around tealeaves and have your child smell it and feel it. Ask them what it feels like and smells like and what it reminds them of. You can make costumes and masks and play out this beautiful story. All you need is some creativity and imagination to bring it to life.
