Helping Kids Keep Healthy Teeth {Tip 4 of 31}

Better brushing leads to better results

I am a dentist working with children and adults who have special needs. I also train a program of post doctoral dentists who are licensed right now, but they’re learning how to treat children with special needs.
One of the tips I would like to share is how to get better results when brushing the teeth of anybody. Whether it’s an older child or a little one, especially if they’re argumentative about having their teeth brushed, you need to sit them in a chair, stand behind them, tilt their head back and lean their head against your tummy. You can now see into their mouth just the way a dentist does as he/she works from behind you. You can also do a better job brushing their teeth, teaching as you go, and don’t forget to get those older teeth too.

A really good tool I can recommend for children is a three headed toothbrush [2].
