Special Ed Classrooms Get Cameras
A new mandate in Texas says that Special Ed Classrooms will get cameras. The cameras are intended to ensure the safety of students with disabilities in classrooms where they spend more than half their school day. Each video recording system retains six months of recordings. College or Technical Scholarship available
There are two $1000 scholarships available that can be used at any college or technical school, anywhere in the United States. The only requirement is that the applicant has been diagnosed with Down syndrome. There is also an optional essay with the topic of how Down Syndrome has affected the applicant’s life in terms of their education goals.
Healthy Vision Checklist
[3]If a young child’s eyes cannot send clear images to the brain, their vision may become limited in ways that cannot be corrected later in life. With early detection, it may be possible to treat them effectively. Below is a checklist of signs to look for that might indicate a problem:
- Does your child have difficulty seeing objects that you or others see?
- Does your child hold objects very close to the face?
- Does your child have frequent headaches?
- Is there an unusual appearance to the eyes?
- Is there frequent blinking or eye rubbing?
- Is there swelling or redness in one or both eyes?
- Is there unusual sensitivity to light?
- Do one or both eyelids droop or does one eyelid tend to close?
- Is the iris different in color in the two eyes?
- Do the eyes tend to “shake” or show to-and-fro movements (nystagmus)?
- Do the eyes appear to turn in, out, up or down or tend to intermittently drift off center?
- Is there a head tilt or turn, when concentrating on objects at a distance or near?
