Bios Dr. Shannon MelideoPhD Marymount University Dr. Shannon Melideo is currently an assistant professor in the School of Education and Human Services at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. She is the education department’s literacy specialist, teaching undergraduate and graduate literacy methods courses. Dr. Melideo’s 20 year career in education also includes years as an elementary classroom teacher, elementary ESOL specialist, and elementary school administrator. As an elementary school teacher, she served many special needs children in her classroom over the years. Additional responsibilities in her role as an administrator included the orchestration, delivery of services, and all meetings related to special education in one school and in another school, the management of the district’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) program. Her research relates to volunteer literacy tutoring programs during and after school, with a specific emphasis on effectively differentiating instruction for all learners. Her degrees include: B.S. Elementary Education (grades PK-8) Lock Haven University, M.Ed. Reading Education (grades K-12 Reading Specialist) Kutztown University, Principal’s Certification (grades K-8) Indiana University of PA, and Ph.D. Philosophy of Education, Educational Leadership and Management. Dr. Melideo is the proud mother of a typically-developing 9 ½ year old daughter and a 7 year old son with special needs. Dr. Melideo can be contacted via email: shannon.melideo@marymount.edu.
