What You Think
Somewhere along the way, I either heard this saying, dreamed the saying, or read it
someplace. In any event, it seems to be a fitting saying as it relates to PSN
Magazine and this issue. Even though I believe those of us caring for special
needs children are very adept at learning to ride the waves, sometimes we still
can get stuck by our own thoughts. Speaking of waves, check out Surfers for Autism and learn about catching some waves and the healing powers of the ocean.
Living what you think…I was, for example, very reluctant to go to an Autism
support group because my child does not have "definitive" Autism.
Yet, once I went to this group, I realized that there were things that they did
with their children that could and have benefitted my daughter. So, I had to
"rethink" my thinking. In doing so, I have been able to help my
daughter and her life is better for it. Back to the saying: You Live What You
Think. I changed my way of thinking and changed how I live. Everything is,
after all, interconnected.
I guess what I am trying to impart to each of you is that we have to constantly
change our thinking. The "tried and true" ways of thinking in the
past certainly do not apply to today. If that were true, we would still be hiding
our children from society....how inconceivable is
that? It wasn't so long ago that this was how society thought.
Thank goodness that is not
how the MHMRA of Harris County, in Houston,TX
